On November 1st 2018, Turkey sent a ship that began drilling for oil and gas in the eastern Mediterranean, two weeks after the tension between Turkey and Greece over jurisdictions and over hydrocarbon exploration the area. Turkish drilling started drilling 200 kilometres from the coast of Cyprus. The Gulf of Mexico oil spill, in contrast, was 400km wide. The Mediterranean is far too sensitive to be used for oil drilling and energy expeditions. CIAO was organised in protest of this action, and they needed a website that projected the damage that oil would do to the nation.
